sara was born and raised in los angeles to dutch parents. currently she is a director who lives and works in brussels belgium. she graduated as a director from RITCS in 2019 and has since directed five short films (fiction and documentary) and a web series for the Belgian broadcaster vrt- secrets. currently she is working on her first feature film villa victoria.
her latest film, beyond our stars, was nominated for best children's documentary at idfa in 2022 and at the chicago International children's film festival. in addition to her work as a director, she teaches at ritcs school of arts.
sara’s work often harnesses the power of imagination and takes advantage of the unique possibilities of the film medium to spark creativity and wonder. many of her films explore family dynamics, aiming to help audiences better understand and connect with one another through shared experiences.
